I'm astounded that Channel 9 even bothers continuing to broadcast. Really. I remember the days when they ran some intelligent free-to-air shows straight from the HBO stable and the like (remember Curb your Enthusiasm? Allan Partridge?), even if they did run them at 3am. Then along cam Quizmania and later The Mint. I mean, I know that they are targeting the LCD market (Lowest Common Denominator -- yes that's my new official category -- Agencies please feel free to use this when planning your media buys), but COME ON. Go away Channel 9, please.

I hated Gordon and his obvious media appeal right up to the point that I actually watched one of his shows. He may not be brilliant, but he see and states the obvious in a compelling way that most of us could learn from. I for one tend to complexify all to easily. I even admit to watching the show and picking up some useful business tips – they are there if you can see past the f&*king bull$h1t.

Gordon Ram is a genius, its good to see some reality television, even if it feels a bit set up at times. Im grateful we are seeing something other than HBO runs. Anything but more US drama, NCIS, SVU, CSI! What I would like to see is good Australian content ramping up the ratings... So when is Underbelly showing?

He's an absolute genius!!!! I come from an era of honesty and he tells it like it is. I admire him for telling it like it is (maybe we in the media industry can learn from that). If it's crap, it's crap. if it's good it's good. Why waste time building peoples egos up only to break them in the end. As I hail from the catering industry and have worked with chefs of Ramsay's nature (not calibre) I have no problem with this. It's educational, interesting and worth watching! p.s. I still don't like channel 9 though!

Gordon is the only reason to switch onto Channel 9. Yes, the show is mostly set up, but it's worth it to hear the word c*nt uttered before 9:30pm.

In England we are realyy F***ing fed up with the a***hole and his bad language. As for his restaurant in Devon it is too F***ing expensive.

I am not a fan of the language but I really like his honesty. I think the ratings will determine its success anyway....

Great tv and excellent simple advice that we all could use in any business - limit choice so you can make a choice. I work in the health industry with too many membership choices, I always say "cakes and bon bons" thats the only choice you have to make.

Great stuff...

If i ate in one of those horrible resturants, or deal with these lazy deluded people id be ushering in more than just 88 F words in a single hour. May not like the man, but love what he stands for. Good old fashion hard work, done "fresh and simple" with some "fire trucks" and C bombs chucked in.

I like the boy. The show has a great formula, he observes, he analyises, he acts. At last, how refreshing to see somebody call it as it is.

The language adds a smidge of colour

Every time I walk into a restaurant, I wonder what the hell is going on out the back in the kitchen. At least in Ramsays restaurants you may pay a little more but you know you are getting the real deal

With the formula he uses, I would love to see him tackle small business in general.

They should also send every victim a free copy of MARKETING.

Dont let the language fool you (as it did 60 minutes). Thats just a gimmick. Ramsey has actually created a really interesting business turnaround show. I love it!

I really enjoy the shows. Some parts do make you cringe, but there are some many great business tips. He is very direct and delivers his message with a sledge hammer, but given some of the places he is dealing with are on their knees and going broke this is what they need. You see so many of the owners have just gone stale or given up and his energy gives them a real shot in the arm that they need. You cant deny his passion and energy. Most importantly he makes things happen. Love it!

I like the show, although Hells Kitchen goes a bit overboard and ridiculous. Kitchen Nightmares is pretty good.

I take it back - he lost my respect with that Hells Kitchen nonsense. I hope he got paid well and it is his last hurrah.

Gordon should win Marketer of the Year 2008. He's a brilliant at marketing one thing: himself. Really, we can all really learn some great tactics from our celebrity chefs. Aside from Gordon with is f***king language, Nigela Lawson cooks up an audience with her servings of gratuitous cleavage shots, then of course there's our 'lovely jubbly' Jamie Oliver with his 'pukka tucker';. These guys are all great at marketing themselves -- along with their books, DVDs and expensive cookware lines. I reckon we should all be lifting key ingredients from these celeb chefs and adding them to our own marketing recipes for success. Go Gordon.

Although Gordon is striking while the iron is hot and the success of his TV show has been a great marketing campaign for the opening of his new Aussie restaurants, its all becoming a bit much. Showing nearly every night of the week, with what is growing into generic message. Clean your kitchen, use fresh local food, get rid of 90% of your menu and keep everything simple.
You wonder how so many restaurants could go so easily wrong but we as marketers have the same job for our clients.

Business TV is always a great watch and with Australia being one of the most successful countries in the world for entrepreneurship I hope the next step for Australian TV is the move towards importing Dragons Den and The Apprentice.

Dragon's Den is excellent viewing and much more compelling viewing imho

We'll all rant and rave about Gordon Effing Ramsey here and take our media dollars to Channel 9 simply because the "Lowest Common Denominator" as offered by withnailandi is watching.

Effing hypocrites we are :-)

And Channel 7 is joining the bandwagon with his first show boiling point being screened.... and trying to get a piece of the pie

Having owned and run a restaurant before my marketing career I can say that it is a real presentation of not only the restaurant game but business itself. I have found it refreshing to have a program that presents largely what are the real issues behind business, any business really, and it is a reality check for anyone who dreams about owning a restaurant and thinking that it would be easy. As to the swearing, well in my 20+ years of marketing experience I have never had a team that didn't find the need to let off some steam and swear, maybe not as regularly as Ramsay. And it is not like he is presenting himself as someone with a pristine personality and then you discover something else. You know what you are in for by reputation and if you don't like it then turn it off! I found the Hells Kitchen process less appealing but then it hooks into the whole Big Brother process of eviction. And it works. Good luck to him because as we know he has worked hard, taken some risks and put solid money on the table to have it happen.

anyone that can make that sort of money with honesty deserves a medal
