Inaugural Top 50 Australian Marketing Pioneer Blogs

Advertise with us

Julian Cole is a busy guy. In between single-handedly taking major transport companies to task, writing one of Australia's top 50 marketing blogs, being a regular media darling on all things social media, and helping out over at Naked Communications, Julian has put together a list of the top 50 Australian marketing blogs, with his own pioneering twist on the best-of-the-best.

The list has been put together using collated data from the following rankings:

  • Google PageRank
  • Technorati Authority
  • Technorati Blog Reactions
  • Alexa Traffic Rank
  • Bloglines
  • Pioneers Score

All are ranked out of 10, and then an overall score out of 60 is given for each blog. The Pioneers Score is Julian's own ranking, which rates the blogs based on:

  1. How thought provoking is the content
  2. How often is the site is updated
  3. How much insight does the author provide into the field of Marketing

Details of what each of the other rankings means and how they are calculated can be found in Julian's follow-up post, Methodology for the Top 50 Australian Marketing blogs, but for the time-being, if you're a marketer and you blog, you can now get an idea of where you fit into the Australian marketing blogosphere.

So are you on the list? Tell us what you think of Julian's initiative.

And if you'd like to hear from the man himself, Julian will be discussing some of the Top 50 Pioneer blogs and the new ratings scheme in an exclusive article in the August issue of Marketing, out on newsstands from 30th July

Julian's initiative is good for Australian marketers, especially when I'm on the list.

A question for Marketing Magazine.

Adage in the US publishes the Power 150 online - has Marketing Magazine got any plans to publish Julian's list online?

This is certainly something we're talking carefully with Julian about. We're all about being a portal to quality marketing editorial here, so in keeping with that it would be awesome to feature Julian's amazing initiative. That said, we're not in the business of stealing link love away from people we got love for, so let's send that love Julian's way :)

Its excellent to see someone push the potential of blogging by recognising these Top 50. Im really looking forward to seeing this list evolve over the coming years and Ive also increased my RSS Feeds by a dozen or so!

Great initiative this. Finally a reliable Australian list that we can refer too. The Ad Age list is great for world wide rankings.

I would encourage Marketing Magazine to team up with Julian in the way Todd Andrick and Ad Age did. the magazine lends credibility to the list and the list shows how the magazine is progressive and supporting blogs as an emerging marketing tool.

What a great idea. The web is a great place, but there really is an awful lot of crap out there that has to be filtered to find useful, novel, relevant or interesting material.
