The board of The Newspaper Works today announced that it has elected Fairfax Media CEO Greg Hywood as its new Chairman, with immediate effect.

Hywood was elected unanimously at a meeting of The Newspaper Works board on March 10.

Commenting on his appointment, Hywood said: “It’s a privilege to have been elected Chairman of The Newspaper Works and I’m looking forward to working with all our publishers.

“This is a very exciting era for our industry, with newspaper brands now able to reach wider audiences than ever thanks to their delivery across print, online and mobile digital platforms,” Hywood said.
 
Hywood’s election as Chairman follows the retirement last year of outgoing Chairman and former APN News & Media CEO Brendan Hopkins. Hopkins is replaced on The Newspaper Works board by Brett Chenoweth who became APN CEO on January 1 this year.
