Aussies are looking for a sustainable Christmas according to Pinterest

Pinterest has released new data that has shown local Christmas might look a little different this year. Aussies are demonstrating a desire to replace the tinsel with something more sustainable.

The data, released by the online marketplace, has shown a significant spike in searches for sustainable Christmas decorations. With over a 50 percent increase in searches surrounding sustainable decorations, there was also an increase for gift giving to. There was also a 35 percent increase in searches surrounding sustainable gift ideas.

Now, with December well and truly upon us, it’s time that businesses start to look at the trend and how they can become more sustainable.

 

Have yourself an eco-friendly Christmas

 

Christmas is becoming a less-is-more celebration. Less wrapping paper, less food wastage. Pinterest notes that in 2021 there was a staggering 80 percent increase in searches for ‘minimalist Christmas’.

Another way that Pinners and consumers are reducing their footprint is DIY. Making gifts or recycling unwanted items is now becoming a trend.

Aussies have been looking into thoughtful options and handy tips to ensure more eco-friendly gift-giving in 2021:

 45 percent increase in ‘Christmas ornament crafts’

  • 45 percent increase in DIY ‘Christmas wood crafts’
  • 40 percent increase in ‘Christmas sewing projects’
  • 40 percent increase in at-home ‘candy crafts’

 Sustainability has become more than a boardroom buzzword. Many businesses are making conscious decisions to decrease their footprint and become ‘greener’. The statistics from Pinterest are only the start, as this becomes part of what consumers seek.
