Facebook gets breast cancer aware

“I like it on the chair.” “I like it anywhere convenient.” “I like it on the doorhandle.”

You may have seen lines like this filling up your Facebook newsfeed over the last couple of days. If you don’t know what it means yet, you’re most likely a man, and there’s a reason for that.

The inside joke spreading across female status updates globally is a playful effort to raise awareness of… awareness.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and this latest viral trend encourages females to write in their Facebook status where they like to place their purse.

Breast cancer organisations are jumping on the meme, but there has not been a convincing confession from an original perpetrator yet.

Whether raising awareness of a disease most people using Facebook have already been touched by in some way brings in any real donations for research remains to be seen, especially with no solid action directive from an organisation.

But for today, in cyberspace at least, people are either curious or already… aware.
