Joe Pollard takes the marketing reins at Telstra

Telstra has named its new CMO, announcing Joe Pollard with become group managing director, Telstra media and marketing.


Pollard was formerly CEO of Publicis Mojo, and Ninemsn, and held a global digital media role at Nike.

She fills the combined marketing and media position left following Mark Buckman’s departure in July.


Gordon Ballantyne, group executive, Telstra retail, said in a statement:

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Pollard to the position of Group Managing Director, Telstra Media and Marketing to succeed Mark Buckman.

Joe is a highly regarded media and marketing executive with an extensive and distinguished career in Australia and overseas.  Joe joins us from Nine Entertainment where she was a non-executive director and has previously held a number of executive positions including CEO of advertising company Publicis Mojo,  CEO of Ninemsn and global director of media, digital and content for Nike. She is also a current board member of AMP Bank.

Joe’s strategic digital credentials will enhance our already strong media and marketing capabilities. Her appointment comes at an important time as we continue to develop our media business as a key growth opportunity and continue to grow the value of the Telstra brand.



Pollard begins the role on 25 November and will report directly to Ballantyne.
