Hey job seeker! Do you have extensive experience? Are you motivated and a team player?  Would you describe yourself as dynamic and highly skilled? If you are any of these great things youre not very special, there are millions of you out there.

LinkedIn have released the most overused words and phrases from Australian member profiles, and some familiar terms pop up in the top 10.

The top 10 most used phrases in Australian LinkedIn profiles

Extensive experience
Proven track record
Team player
Skill set
Highly skilled

“A lot of these words are quite cliched. They dont differentiate people
from their peers,” career and workplace expert Lindsay Pollack tells Marketing magazine for LinkedIn.
“What we’re saying is its ideal if you be a bit more specific. Instead
of saying you’re dynamic or efficient, you should say something like
I’ve increased sales by 300%. Give something that is quantifiable, that
will attract people’s attention.”

LinkedIn gives three tips professionals can act on over the holidays to increase the number of people viewing their LinkedIn Profile:

Tip 1: Accentuate your profile

Make sure your LinkedIn Profile is complete and includes all the roles you have had. You are 12 times more likely to be viewed for potential opportunities if you have more than one position listed on your profile. Also, add a profile photo – people never forget a face.

Tip 2: Grow your network

Connect to at least 50 trusted contacts. Simply import your contacts to start finding first, second or even third degree connections working at companies you want as clients or would like to get in touch with.

Tip 3: Lift your profile in Google search results

Have you done a Google search for your name? If you havent, you should. People are Googling you before meetings and interviews. Get your LinkedIn Profile to come up higher in search results by customising your profile URL.
