Microsoft faces off Apple, Google

Apple has released its new MacBook and iMac, as well as a new mouse, 24 hours ahead of Microsoft’s Window 7 launch.

The move follows Google’s launch of ‘Gone Google’, promoting their cloud computing offering. The campaign lists big name clients who have ‘Gone Google’ – Telegraph Media Group, Motorola and InterContinental Hotels Group. Furthermore, it uses copy such as ‘60% of the world’s top brands have gone Google’ and ‘Day #5. Software upgrade costs = crazy. Want to go Google.’

Microsoft does have the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) on side however. A Madison Avenue lobby is pushing the US Justice Department to approve Microsoft and Yahoo’s search technology arrangement. The arrangement would involve Microsoft powering Yahoo’s organic search, while Yahoo handled Microsoft’s paid search.

The lobby wrote, Yahoo and Microsofts proposal to combine their technologies and search platforms is good for advertisers, marketing service agencies, website publishers and consumers… This proposal enhances competition, and should be allowed to take effect as soon as possible. The letter was signed by AAAA President and CEO Nancy Hill, heads of WPP, Publicis Groupe, Omnicom and Interpublic Group of Companies.
