A new report by Cuponation found that Ebay is more than five times more popular than the best performing Australian retail websites.

Global discounts platform Cuponation released new research this week revealing the best performing online retailers in Australia. The study found the best performing Australian retailer was JB Hi-Fi with 74.0 million visitors in the first half of 2018; far outweighed however by the best performing retail website in Australia, eBay.com.au with 404.7 million visitors.

The report also found that Amazon’s recently launched Australian site is still lagging behind its global counterpart. Amazon.com had 112 million Australian visitors between January and June this year, while Amazon.com.au saw only 52.4 million visitors.

Conversely, Australian consumers gave eBay’s Australian site more than five times more attention than its global one. eBay.com was the third most visited site, below Amazon.com, at 80.5 million visitors.

“It’s a big challenge for Australian retailers to keep up with the international shopping sites,” says Cuponation in a release.

“The competition is hitting hard and consumers tend to find alternatives in other markets and through other e-commerce channels.”
