Frequent Flyers may lose points, says Qantas campaign

Been saving those credit card points for that dream holiday? Well, you’d better get in quick or you may not be able to ever redeem them, according to a campaign launched by Qantas.

MarkSydney/M&C Saatchi have developed a campaign for Qantas Frequent Flyer, launching in terminals on Monday to alert people to the choice they have to transfer their credit card points to their Frequent Flyer card before the end of March or lose the benefits with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

Taking inspiration from successful political campaigns such as ‘Kevin 07′ or Barack Obama’s ‘Yes, we can’, the line ‘It’s time to choose’ was developed (though there are similarities to the Whitlam Labor slogan, ‘It’s time’).

According to the agency’s release, because the ‘points transfer deadline’ is a complex issue for the everyday person, it was their aim ‘to be as single-minded as possible’.

“In its simplest form, it comes down to a clear choice for consumers. You can choose for your points to be part of Australia’s leading rewards program. Or, if not, you should be aware that you will lose the potential benefits,” says the release.

“To have impact, the campaign needs to be direct and unambiguous with a strong call to action – something political campaigns do particularly well.”
