What do you do?

I am the business owner and manager of the digital marketing and design agency Seeclear.

What was your first job?

My first job was as a paper boy. I used to do two paper runs every afternoon and cover about 20km on my bike. The wages were bad but tips were great and it taught me how to communicate with my customers.

What did you study?

I cut my teeth working in the industry while based in London during the dot.com boom. It was an exciting time with a great start up called peoplesound which sold music for unsigned artists. Since then I’ve worked my way up working for businesses like Australian Rugby, before taking the jump to start my own business.

Describe a typical day?

My usual day starts with a thud at 6am which is my four-year-old jumping on our bed to wake us up. Not long after opening my eyes I grab my iPhone and check my emails – my wife thinks I’m actually glued to my iPhone.

I usually make it into the office by 8am, where I quickly get in some reading and catch up on the morning news, sport, my favourite blog sites and industry updates. From then on it’s a different day every day. I spend most of my time consulting with new and existing clients on ways to grow their business or make their marketing more effective. The rest of my time is spent managing projects, answering emails and phone calls, writing proposals, managing staff and all the usual administration involved in running a business!

What is on the agenda for the next year?

There are always lots of things happening. We continue to build our client base and I see our team consolidating those relationships and working more closely with our clients as an integral business function. This industry is always changing and we’re always pushing for better ways to master the digital environment and keeping on the front foot is the most important thing for Seeclear and our clients.

What brand do you love the most? Dislike the most? Why?

Arsenal Football Club the best football club in the world… on a more serious note I certainly respect Google. They’re innovators and dominators. Can anyone really imagine the web without it? My point rests.

What do you believe has been the most significant moment in the history of marketing?

It has to be the internet, the genius of Tim Berners Lee to create the idea and bring it to reality particularly considering prior to this no marketing other than word of mouth was used to generate discussions about events, brands, people and much more. Our biggest challenge ahead is to bring small business forward using the internet and remove the stigma that surrounds it. The internet need not be daunting but if not used correctly it can be a problem for your business.
