Professional contact network LinkedIn has announced its one millionth Australian member, following the opening of its Sydney office.

Clifford Rosenberg, managing director of LinkedIn Australia and New Zealand, is confident that the momentum that he has seen is testament to the network’s popularity.

“Our research confirms that networking is critical to Australian professionals in order to achieve their goals and build their businesses. LinkedIn offers a highly effective way for them to network in a timely manner online or via their mobile,” explained Rosenberg.

“By establishing a local presence, we can focus on developing strategic partnerships to enhance LinkedIn usage. Our marketing efforts will be directed toward raising awareness for our premium subscriptions, advertising, recruitment products and driving user engagement.”

LinkedIn was founded in 2002 by Reid Hoffman and has 60 million members globally.
