Careers: Australia marketer movements November 2015


There has been lots of movement in the ranks of senior Australian marketers in the past month or so. Here are some of the key career moves.



  • Australian OpenStack services provider Aptira has appointed its first marketing manager, Jessica Field. She will assist the company’s expansion in new and existing geographies by identifying and capitalising on opportunities.
  • Cloud computing company EMC has appointed Nina Hargus as CMO of EMC Information Infrastructure. She spent the past three years as CMO of VCE.
  • Ken Reid has joined KPMG as national managing partner, brand and innovation. He replaces Martin Sheppard, who has moved to Spotless Group as its new CEO.
  • Former Seek marketing manager Kate Sterling has moved to full service growth agency Penso as its first managing director.
  • National Australia Bank has appointed Andrew Knott as CMO. Knott was previously at McDonald’s as vice president, media and digital for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. At NAB he will be responsible for driving customer-centricity and increasing customer advocacy.
  • Hootsuite has hired Penny Wilson as CMO leading global marketing.
  • Angus Jones has joined LG Electronics Australia as general manager of marketing. He was previously global marketing director at Dell.
  • Tatts Group has promoted Megan Magill to CMO after more than two years as group brand and marketing manager. She will focus on a cohesive vision for the Tatts Group brands.
  • Restaurant and event company Merivale has promoted Andrew El-Bayeh to marketing director and appointed Sarah Ranawake as head of content. El-Bayeh has been spent the past four years in the Merivale team, most recently as commercial development manager.
  • Lion has created a new role for Matt Tapper, as MD global markets for Lion beer, cider and wine. Tapper was previously marketing director of the company’s Australian beer and cider business. Tapper has been with Lion since 1997 in senior marketing and sales roles in Australia and New Zealand.
  • Customer acquisition company Salmat has appointed its first-ever CMO, Sarah Pike. Pike has 18 years’ experience in telecoms, mobile, TV, technology and digital – most recently at Optus. She will focus on all marketing activity as well as establishing a clear framework and process for building and maintaining innovative products and services.
  • LGsuper has created a chief digital officer role for Brett Barber to lead strategic digital transformation. Barber will be responsible for the company’s IT and marketing divisions. He has nearly 20 years’ experience in IT, marketing and business development at AMP Limited, SingTel Optus, Suncorp-Metway, Allianz, Credit Union Australia and Dingu Blue.
  • Adtech and big data firm BlisMedia has appointed Ben Tatton-Brown as chief strategy and marketing officer. He is a serial entrepreneur who co-founded Amobee, a mobile adtech business acquired by SingTel in 2012.
  • Marketing specialist Liz Courtney-Grace has been appointed the first CEO of Aim for the Stars, Layne Beachley’s foundation for inspiring women to achieve their dreams. Courtney-Grace previously worked at boutique communications agency The Evolve Group as senior marketing communications director and partner.
  • Earlier this year, Quick Service Restaurant Holdings (QSRH) hired Kim Russell as chief customer officer, responsible for customer engagement, marketing, digital, PR and corporate communications across all brands. Russell was formerly a senior marketer at Westpac.
  • Also earlier this year, Adshel promoted Charlotte Valente to head of marketing. She was previously head of strategic integration.


Industry organisations

  • The AANA’s new chair of the board is Matt Tapper, MD global markets for Lion beer, cider and wine.
  • Advertising Standards Bureau CEO Fiona Jolly celebrated 10 years in the role in October.
  • ADMA has appointed Katherine Raskob as director, communications and customer experience. She is responsible for the organisation’s overall communications and customer experience strategy and execution, the ADMA brand, and all internal and external communications including digital, social and PR.
  • Kim Williams has replaced Sandy Grant as chair of the Copyright Agency board. He is a former chief executive at NewsCorp Australia, Foxtel, Fox Studios Australia, the Australian Film Commission, Southern Star Entertainment and Musica Viva Australia.
