Havas CEO David Jones speaks out on Publicis-Omnicom merger

Not everyone is convinced of the merits of the announcement that advertising rivals Publicis Groupe and Omnicom will merge to for the biggest advertising holding company in the world surpassing WPP.

Havas CEO David Jones has released a statement saying: “I’m not sure this is in the best interests of their clients or their talent. Clients today want us to be faster, more agile, more nimble and more entrepreneurial, not bigger and more bureaucratic and more complex.”

“Our business is very simple – it’s about clients and talented employees – and as I said, I’m not sure this move is good for either of them.

“Clients today want us to be faster, more agile, more nimble and more entrepreneurial, not bigger and more bureaucratic and more complex.”

Jones appeared to be bewildered at the interest in the merger, adding,  “The industry’s obsession with mergers and acquisitions still amazes me particularly in a world where digital and technology have made scale irrelevant.”

Omnicom CEO John Wren tried to discount any anxiety at the press conference announcing the merger saying, “anyone who is concerned about any of this should not be.”
