Founder of The Fetch and former online editor of Marketing magazine, Kate Kendall, is to join the co-founders of YouTube for the launch of new publishing start-up, Zeen.

Zeen is the latest project of parent company AVOS which is led by YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, and currently consists of a landing page with the line: ‘Discover and create beautiful magazines.’

Kendall will head up marketing and communications for the site and is making the move to Silicon Valley next week after founding The Fetch, an online guide for the business, digital and creative communities, that started with Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and have now spread to London, Berlin and the US. She also founded Social Melbourne after five years in the publishing industry working on titles such as Dumbo Feather, The Conversation, Marketing, Desktop and Australian Macworld.

Kendall explains how the partnership started: “I was in town and got chatting to the team over Mexican food, which is always the way. I realised we were working on similar problems around information delivery, publishing and curation. After being pitched the opportunity, I felt it was too good to miss and I’m looking forward to working in what I like to call Nerd Hollywood with a great team.”
