Tourism Victoria’s vicarious campaign ‘Remote Control Tourist’ lets you go before you go

Share

Tourism Victoria and Visit Melbourne have launched a new interactive campaign called ‘Remote Control Tourist’.

The campaign has two ‘tourists’ with cameras strapped onto their heads that connect to a giant live-streaming battery backpack. The public can then use Twitter or Facebook to instruct the Remote Control Tourists to visit different tourist attractions, restaurants and bars.

The $3.6 million ‘virtual tourist experience’ is claiming to be a first in vicarious tourism and is aiming to attract the interest of digital-savvy young ‘opinion leaders’ in key interstate markets to entice people to holiday in Melbourne.

The footage is being streamed live on remotrecontroltourist.com and The Remote Control Tourists will be available each day until 13 October.
