Facebook launches geolocation application

Share

Facebook has launched ‘Places’, a geolocation application for mobile users.

‘Places’ bears similarity to geolocation services already offered by Four Square and Gowalla, as it allows users to share their current location with friends and other users. Logging into the ‘People Here Now’ section, shows who else is checked in at a particular place. All Facebook users are able to control whether or not they want to share their location however.

Places is currently only available in the United States, but is expected to be made available to more countries and across additional mobile platforms soon.

The application is currently available for iPhone users as an application, but also available for download on mobile browsers supporting HTML 5 and geolocation.
