FIFA president launches personal Twitter page

FIFA president, Joseph S. Blatter has launched his personal Twitter page just in time for the opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Soccer fans worldwide will be able to follow Blatter’s views and opinions on the account @seppblatter throughout the competition.

“We are approaching the first world cup in which social media websites will play an important role in connecting everyone who cares about the game of football. I’m very excited to be sharing my own personal experience of the competition with football fans from all over the world,“ said Blatter.

The official FIFA website, will also be launching two Twitter accounts, to go live later in June, @FIFAcom and @FIFAcomlive.

Experian Hitwise has released data on Australians online search habits in the lead up to the competition. Australian internet searches featuring world cup increased by almost 140% last month, while search volume for the Socceroos quadrupled in the past fortnight and search queries related to TV and online coverage of the event increased by 76% in the past fortnight.
