STW’s brand strategy agency, Designworks, has created a unique, interactive light installation using a specialised LED mesh system launched at Vivid Sydney. The installation will be on display at the Vivid festival from tonight and was developed in conjunction with Australia’s first charity, The Benevolent Society.

The installation is the first of its kind in Australia with the Hundreds and Thousands light installation designed as a tunnel for people to walk through and is essentially a net of thousands of little LED lights, representing the thousands of hopes of Australians.

Managing director, Designworks Sydney, Mark Kennedy says: “This is a fabulous way to bring the role of benevolent society to life. Hundreds and Thousands is an extension of the transformation and design work we have recently undertaken for The Benevolent Society and combines creativity and state of the art technology beautifully.”

“The aim of the brand repositioning was to capture and articulate The Benevolent Society’s key role in driving positive social change in Australia, and the Hundreds and Thousands light tunnel brings this aim to life by providing Australians with the ability to share their hopes and dreams via social media feeds,” adds Kennedy.

The thousands of LED lights have been like a screen, and each light can be controlled individually (like pixels on a computer screen) that react and respond when visitors interact with it.

The installation also responds when people share their ‘hopes for the future’ via the Twitter hashtag #hopesforchange or through the website hopesforchange.org.au.

The Benevolent Society’s CEO, Anne Hollonds says: “Hundreds and Thousands is so much more than a light installation, it’s a wonderful platform to engage with Australians of all walks of life and share a little bit of our history, what we stand for today and our vision for the future. The light installation is exciting and thought-provoking, and will inspire people to share their hopes for change for Australia’s future.”
