Erich Schmidt, Google’s CEO, confirmed the company was still complying to China’s search censoring laws but said those days were numbered.

While not providing any greater depth, Schmidt said:

“Our business in China is today unchanged… We continue to follow their laws, we continue to offer censored results. But in a reasonably short time from now, we will be making some changes there.”

Schmidt reinforced that Google would like to stay in China, adding that Google likes “the Chinese people, we like our Chinese employees.”

“We like the business opportunities there, but wed like to do that on somewhat different terms than we have.”

Although he did not provide any additional details, he said the company was in talks with the Chinese government. The widely reported cyber attacks are still under investigation according to Schmidt.

Google has also posted impressive growth.
