The campaign is part of a broader communication plan from the Australian Government to ensure timely, factual and consistent information is provided to the public in an attempt to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.

The campaign, which launched over the weekend, so far includes four videos, three print ads and four radio ads. Creative agency Carbon Creative put the campaign together as part of a communications measure which will cost $30 million over 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years.

The Government has identified the importance of a detailed communication plan, particularly for those most vulnerable to the spread of illness, like high risk groups including older Australians, those with chronic health conditions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people living with a disability.

The campaign focuses on hygiene practices that can help prevent the spread and encourages the public to stay informed of new developments. The campaign also specifically targets those who have recently travelled overseas.

Since the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that COVID-19 is a pandemic, the Australian Government has promised a $17.6 billion economic support package to encourage investment and keep people in jobs and a $2.4 billion health package to protect all Australians, especially those most vulnerable.

The Department of Health is providing information on digital platforms in English and Chinese based on the latest medical advice, including through Facebook, Twitter, Weibo and WeChat.

As of today 16 March 2020, there have been 249 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia.
