Groupon’s ex-CEO releases motivational business pop record

Co-founder and ousted Groupon CEO, Andrew Mason, has gone where not a whole lot of executives have gone before. In an uncoventional move, he has released a motivational business pop album called Hardly Workin’, which is filled with, “motivational songs about business leadership”.

The seven-track album, released on Tuesday, features the songs, ‘Risin’ Above the Pack’ and ‘My Door is Always Open’ and is currently available for purchase on iTunes.

“I managed over 12,000 people at Groupon, most under the age of 25,” Mason wrote in a blog post, according to the Chicago Tribune. “One thing that surprised me was that many would arrive at orientation with minimal understanding of basic business wisdom,” he wrote.

Mason also told business magazine, Entrepreneurthat companies should end business meetings with track seven of the album, ‘It’s Up to Us’ to further inspire the team, he also suggested attaching ‘My Door is Always Open’ to employee emails.

According to US tech site, Mashable.com, Groupon’s stock prices have almost doubled since Mason’s departure.

But we shouldn’t feel too sorry for Mason; the former CEO owns nearly 47 million shares of Groupon stock, or about 7% of total shares. At the time of his departure from the company, those shares were worth about $213 million; they are now worth around $420 million.
