Google Plus TV ad: Moving or soppy?

Google+ has launched its first TV spot in the UK, a 90-second commercial that has been described by AdWeek as ‘hollow’.
Produced by British ad agency Adam & Eve, the TVC features actor Benedict Cumberbatch reciting Shakespeare’s The Seven Stages of Man to emotive background music and images of the fictitious Tom Barker’s milestones.
Resembling the same selling points used to launch Facebook’s Timeline, the TVC concludes with the lines, “A life lived and shared. That’s a plus.”
